Today, June 17, 2025, I had the honor of meeting Acting Consul General Mr. Wang Fanfu of the People’s Republic of China, at his invitation. This encounter was more than a formal courtesy—a sincere invitation to dialogue.
During our meeting, I had the opportunity to share the vision behind www.manuelcarlospiar.com, a website dedicated to the life and legacy of General Manuel Carlos Piar. A heroic yet often overlooked Afro-Caribbean leader in Latin America’s independence movement, Piar stood for more than military victories. He championed social justice, racial equality, and the dignity of all people, making him a timeless symbol of the fight against oppression.
Mr. Wang Fanfu expressed genuine interest in the ideals Piar fought for, and we engaged in a thoughtful exchange about history, justice, and intercultural understanding. Our dialogue underscored the vital role of historical memory and how it can bring nations closer together in mutual respect.
We exchanged gifts as a gesture of friendship and shared values. I presented Mr. Wang with a portrait of Manuel Carlos Piar, which he kindly accepted with appreciation. He confirmed that the picture will be given a special place in the Chinese Consulate, symbolizing the enduring relevance of Piar’s legacy and the bridges that can be built through dialogue.
Being invited by Mr. Wang Fanfu was a true honor—one that reflects a commitment not only to diplomacy but to more profound human connection through the lessons of history. Our meeting reaffirms that we help lay the foundation for a more just and understanding world by acknowledging each other’s struggles and values.
